To Write and Roam
Who uses a pen to notate when with
a swipe of a finger, you make letters
appear on your touch screen phone? No mere myth
this handwriting, this scratching that fetters
some writers, keeps them up deciphering
their ink marks until night drains into day.
I do not indulge in quill sharpening.
Nowadays, I can write and walk all day,
Or just for six miles but hey, who cares?
It’s still walking and I’m still writing–err
tapping? Swiping? Tearing my hair? Who dares
to text? My creativity flowers
on long walks, that’s why I started this poem
on my smartphone, so I could write and roam.
~ ~ ~
written while walking 6 miles on 10/26/15 in support of Automattic Worldwide WP 5k (#WWWP5k) and then edited of course.
Nice, nice

Thank you 🙂 I edited it when I was done walking because my phone auto-corrected some of my words to the wrong thing 🙂

So nice to find a kindred phone-writer! I capture many gists of a first draft of a poem this way.

Poetry is mindfulness and it’s forward motion. I can’t think of a better example of these facts than what this young woman has done, while participating in Automattic’s Worldwide WP 5K! Enjoy!

Great stuff. You really took your time with the iambic pentameter – I couldn’t help counting if each line had 10 syllables and hell yeah they did.

Thank you. I had to look up the syllable count on a couple of them just to be certain 🙂

Beautiful poem, and so true! Who needs a pen anymore? I’d pick a touchscreen any day.

Well done. I started a pretty intense workout program after about a year of neglecting my body for a novel. I’ve found that ideas come more readily when you get the blood flowing. I think Bob Marley called this phenomenon “Lively up Yourself.” Thank you!

That’s so true. I’ve written several sonnets while out walking. I don’t always remember to tag them as such. 🙂

I really like this. Stumbled upon it just today, but if this forms the essence of your attempt at the 5K I’m sure I’ll love the entire series. Beautifully written 🙂
