Breaking Free
Now, it needed to break out of its shell.
Shatter the prismatic outer layer
that attracted the noble fool who fell
in lust with its luster. Purveyor
of fine gems, he fancied the egg, mistook
it for a faberge, but it’s the real
thing. A dragon egg laid by an old crook,
now sitting on a desk, perched on a steel
holder, that’s keeping the rocking egg from
tipping over despite its occupant’s
attempts to crack its housing. Time had come
for escape, it pushed a claw through to grant
freedom and dragged it down until it burst
forth and into the world, the dragon thrust.

This is a scene from an upcoming short story set in Shayari of course. Right now this baby dragon hasn’t got a name yet but I’m working on it.
for today’s prompt for Writing with Jishnu: Freedom
Melinda, this is so well done….outstanding!

Love the imagery you created for a hatching egg. Vivid and wonderful words.

Such vivid and beautiful imagery — I felt as if I were watching the whole thing unfold. You have the gift of storytelling, my friend. Loved these lines:
“Shatter the prismatic outer layer
that attracted the noble fool who fell
in lust with its luster. ”
Your language and sentence structure are impeccable.

Oh, wow. I just loved it. I liked the faberge touch. Got me thinking – hhmmm… who knows, maybe in a parallel universe some noble did get the shock of his life by the egg just hatching on his antique writing desk…

Thank you! I usually let my characters name themselves. So I’ll have to wait and see.
