What Do You Do When Not Writing? Assignment #9

What Do You Do When Not Writing?

“What do you do when not writing?” she asked
the scribe. Laying paper and ink aside,
he regarded her but no answer blast
past his consciousness. He blinked and she sighed.
“That’s what I thought.” She left scrivener’s nook,
took a boat to university’s isle,
asked a student with her nose in a book
the same question. “I go out, walk awhile,”
shrugged the girl. “What about you professor?”
“I read, improve my mind.” He turned and fled.
Still not satisfied, she dragged a claw, tore
reality, poked through my screen and said–
but I had an answer ready: I work,
walk, dance, sing and try not to go berserk.

  1. Oh my.. so cleverly written Melinda. I love that last line. It sums it up perfectly!
Do you by chance like to watch horror movies? 😀 😀

  2. Wonderful poem and comment stream on the assignment.
“Thankfully there’s this fantasy world I created which is way more interesting.”
    Spoken like a true writer!
The tagline for my blog was, until recently, “my fictional autobiography.”

    1. I’m part of a prompt writing team, and as Tale Weaver is the prompt I help with, I decided to focus more on that.
My fictional autobiography is still a work in progress. Not abandoned, simply on vacation, lol.

is the prompt group (began and run wonderfully by Yves.) There is a daily prompt schedule — Thursdays are Tale Weaver prompts. My writing partner, Michael has this week’s prompt. Next week, I will post the prompt.
Two prompts focus on poetry, the others don’t specify a particular style/type of response.
The link in the comment should work. If not, the badge on my blog for Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie should work.
I hope you find something there that interests you. Also, many of the prompts don’t have a “due by date,” so you can contribute whenever.
Let me know what you think.
I’m doing 101 to get back into daily writing, and be more inspired in my prompt writing.
