The Bloodcrow

The Bloodcrow

Through an aperture, he saw the Bloodcrow
sift through the bodies scattered on the track.
Dread hammered nails in his apathy, sowed
a frantic beat in his veins, magic jacked…

“Papa, wake up. You’re having a bad dream.”
Small hands patted Sarn’s face, empyreal
radiance cut ‘cross the scene in green beams.
His magic threw the dream, reached for the real.

Ran pancaked into a relieved embrace.
Sarn blinked away that dream but its presence
lingered like a whalebone in a back brace–
still pressing its unwanted influence.

“Why you not have good dreams?” Ran still held tight.
“‘Cause fanatics did bad things in my sight.”

  1. Excellent poetry! Your command on words is getting stronger each day and the tales you weave, more addicting. The imagery the word “Bloodcrow” invokes, accompanied by the spectacular visual is a treat for the readers! 🙂

    1. Thank you on both counts. I chose reflections because they fascinate me. I didn’t even think of magic which is funny considering I spend all my time writing about it 🙂

    1. Yes it is. Prompts have opened many windows into the narrative exposing details that I had missed. I have added many things to the books thanks to prompt responses 🙂 I am incredibly grateful for that.

    1. Really? I was just reading the others who participated and I was feeling like my effort lacked some of their luster. Perhaps I am being to critical of myself. I wrote 14 consecutive vignette/sonnets for advent over the weekend. Maybe that’s coloring my view. I don’t know but I love wordles. Thank you for the great words! Some I have never heard of. 🙂

    2. I did not find your entry lacking at all, I thought it was fantastic you are being too hard yourself. A few days ago I was writing up a frenzy and now I just feel meh about everything I write. I love them too!
