Hanging by a moment

Hanging by a Moment

~ ~ ~

Hung by a moment–
suspended from fleeting clouds–
the ground anchors me.

~ ~ ~

My head’s in the clouds.
Imagination’s strings lift–
I float, par’dise found.

~ ~ ~

Reality pulls–
against dreams’ strings, tugs me down–
so gravity wins.

~ ~ ~

Hanging by moments–
clouds drift away without me–
back to work I go.

  1. Wow! This reminded me of a writer’s mind struggling to find balance between the lofty realms of imagination and the day-to-day requirement to keep feet on the ground. Beautifully written, Melinda. Love the airy, dreamlike quality and the images of clouds you left me with 🙂

    1. Thank you! This poem is a peak under the hood so to speak, a look at my daily reality. 🙂 All the stories running on my blog plus a slew that aren’t on here play out in the background while I’m awake and I much prefer to tune into those channels instead of my work-a-day office job reality that pays the mortgage. oh well. we all deal with that 🙂

  2. Oh Mel, what a beautiful series. The stark contrast between dreams and reality, and then the daydreams in between. I particularly love the head in the clouds line.
Another interpretation: to me, it seems, you are walking with your head in the clouds while your feet are firmly planted on the ground. And your heart is trying so hard to find the realm in between. Fantastically done!
