Schism | Emotional ABCs

Assumptions break down
fundamental difference
divides me from you.

Hammer falls and strikes
final blow shatters concrete
foundation’s not sound.

Two opinions, one rope between, tugs start.
Two sides hauling hard on the fraying line.
Tension snaps the rope, breaks two sides apart.
No longer one, the severed rope’s a line.
Rising up we stare across that small gap
fundamental difference created.
A line we can’t cross; the truth is a slap.
One that smarts as our divide’s debated.
We can’t go back to one; we go forward
apart; walk two paths that diverge for now.
We leave the broken rope without a word
The issue’s too hot to handle right now.
It’s already shattered us, left splinters.
Where unity once stood, there’s bare winter.

We dominoes fall
toppling each one behind
until nothing stands.

One issue knocked down
the house of cards we had built
with a breath of truth.
