Wander: Emotional ABCs

Wander: Emotional ABCs

starlight on water
I wonder while I wander
parting night’s cold veil

Watch city lights rise
a blaze against the night sky
tiptoe along streets

Keep on walking, open road calls me home.
Deep wooded glens await explorers.
I lace my hiking boots step onto loam.
I’m ready to roam; I’m a wonderer.
Grasslands spread their arms wide inviting me
to walk, run my fingers through the long grass.
Sniff the flowers in the prairies; climb trees,
touch the sky; tweak the stars in space’s air-
less darkness; spin planets on their axes,
fly high over mountains on eagle’s wings;
take rides in imagination’s taxis;
swim in lakes where water cascades and sings.
I wander with eyes fixed on horizons
both near and far in time as I walk on.

I leave no footprint
no sign of any passage
no leaf out of place

Each spot visited
becomes a memory kept
but not repeated.

  1. This is a special piece in your ABC series… I enjoy both wondering and wandering …one reason why I like this poem so much…you take us on a fantastic journey.

    So beautifully penned. Wonder and wander! Memory kept but not repeated. That makes me ponder if i should do the same.
    P.S. I’ve been away and now I’m catching up. Hope you’ve been well, my dear Mel.
