The Prophet

The Prophet

The prophet climbed hills,
sought a new vision on high
close to heaven’s curve

beneath sun’s glory
he stood naked, unsheltered
sin’s scars now revealed

Sun’s unholy fire
burned his skin; light purifies
shatters with silence

Signs told him to strip
hold tight to identity
let dignity go

be bare as grave stones
hollow as a beating drum
let wisdom echo

bone to bone its song
swells and passes to muscle
then to dust in death

life’s music plays on
worm-carried deep under earth
it vibrates up roots

flows up through tree trunk
to branches that scratch the sky
leaves that hand clouds songs

clouds gather o’erhead
drop rain that plays the earth’s long
patter of life loved.

  1. Beautifully written. I like this poem very much you have made a fantastic word picture of this prophet. How his duty and life force are carried on through the earth.

  2. “Sin’s scars revealed”.. Gosh! I wish i had written that. In Azul’s words, WOWZA! (Damn i miss her 😦 )

    “bone to bone its song
    swells and passes to muscle
    then to dust in death”

    Fundamental truth, penned in a power packed verse.

    The entire series is so impactful. You are a powerful senryu-ist, my dear friend.
