Hi there!

I’m back! This is Ran, son of Sarn (the main character of Curse Breaker: Enchanted) and you’re going to vote for me so I can win the interview! Only one character will be chosen—

Ran turns in his seat and tries to block the laptop screen with his small body. He hasn’t come into his power yet, but unease prickles his skin. Someone’s watching him.

After closing the lid, Ran stands up and approaches a tear in the space-time continuum. Its purple edges sparkle inviting him to poke his head through. He smothers a giggle when the dimensional magic tickles his skin.

While at work, Papa often checks on him through the magic and the connection they share. But no shiny wave of green energy washes under the rough planks serving as a door. Ran smiles, realizing Papa might return with a story to tell. If there’s trouble afoot tonight, Papa will find it.

Ran’s gaze sweeps the far side of the cave where he faced down a shadow monster in Curse Breaker: Enchanted. He zeroes in on the ratty mattress he shares with his uncle and Papa and his smile slips. Where’s Uncle Miren?

Fingers tap on Ran’s shoulder starting him.

“What’s this I hear about an interview?”

Miren’s only ten years older than Ran and a real pain in the neck sometimes. Like right now, when his teenage uncle grabs Ran by his upper arms and yanks him through the portal. Ran kicks the air in a futile attempt to break free. Thank Fate he already sent this message because he has a lot of explaining to do.

Outside the cave, the bells of Mount Ereden chime five times, and Ran’s hopes rise. Papa’s coming. Maybe he won’t have to explain anything at all. His smile returns and a mischievous twinkle in his green eyes accompanies it. He sticks his tongue out at his annoyed uncle.
