Humility: Senryu’s Seven Virtues

The Seven Virtues of Senryu:

Humility

I am taking on the seven cardinal virtues in a senryu rumble. I couldn’t reach my blogging partner in  crime, so I’m going it alone. Wish me luck! Salvation, here I come! You better be ready to greet me at journey’s end.

If you missed the Seven Deadly Sins of Senryu, you can find all the senryu mayhem by clicking here.

Humility

Lay down sword, bow head
Approach now on bended knee
Heart reverent, waiting.

Set aside your pride
Put on humility’s cloak
It douses the fire

Take off the lion
shrug into the soft lamb’s wool,
No scratch of conscience

Clear the clouds and peer
Not at mirror’s distortions
See infinity

Bathe in modesty
Absorb life affirming ways
Swim in self-knowledge

  1. ” Take off the lion / Shrug in the lambs soft wool” that line is wonderfully written and gives me a picture of snuggling down into a soft wool blanket . As if it is more comfortable and easier to have humility then to have such pride as a lion. I never knew actually that there were 7 virtues to accompany the 7 deadly sins. Good to know 🙂

  2. I love the first three stanzas. Especially the take off the lion part. You are such a great preacher. And an even great practitioner. If only they all would listen to your pearls of wisdom.
It’s nice to be important but it’s important to be nice.
A beautiful person may not always be good. But a good person is always beautiful.
And you, my dear friend, are both!

A beautiful person may not always be good. But a good person is always beautiful.” Thank you again, my friend 🙂
