Pennies at Takipsilim

july-12

On wings of heathered down, she descended, arms extended to pick up the shining jewel in the lane. A round disc of copper with a man’s profile embossed on one side and a building on the other, the discarded penny flashed in the gaslight. She touched down long enough to pluck it from the puddle and add it to her collection.

Takipsilim fell around her, draping a city whose puddles sparkled in the aftermath of the rain that had cleansed it.  Other little lights bobbed and wove as her fellow fairies went about the serious task of collecting pennies. Those magical coins offered the knowledgeable a gateway to other worlds.

Adding the penny she’d found to the silk purse at her hip, she scanned the lane for more. After all, one could never have too many doors. And what worlds awaited her! She smiled as she patted her purse and ascended to continue her nightly search.

    1. Honestly, some of these challenges appear to be so much fun. But I haven’t been able to blog as often as I would like. I always post on Tuesdays and this week I wasn’t able to. So that is why I shy away from them. Reading your posts of these challenges is fun.
