This past week was quieter than recent weeks. Still no update about the water damage since the maintenance guy never came to look at it again. We still don’t know when that will get fixed or what it will cost. That’s not a bad thing since we don’t have money to pay for that repair. So it taking a while gives my scribe time to save money for it.

Book News!

Chaos in Chains, the current book my scribe, Melinda, is writing is finally ending! Yes, it really is. The major story arcs are wrapping up ,and I don’t think the characters can do anything to stop that. Although, they will try because why wouldn’t they? Every character wants more page time.

But stories develop their own momentum as they go on, and it’s like gravity. You can try to fight it, but gravity always wins in the end. So that narrative thrust becomes impossible to fight and everything pushes the characters toward the end. That’s where we’re at now.

How do I know that?

Chaos in Chains crossed the final threshold. It surpassed 40 chapters!

44 chapters are published on Substack and Patreon and my scribe has 6 rough chapters that follow it. She thinks there may be 2-3 chapters after that to wrap everything up.

Melinda doesn’t like cliffhangers. She goes to extreme lengths to avoid them. Don’t believe me?

Wait until you read Curse Breaker Jousts.

We tried to end that one on a cliffhanger several times, and each time resulted in you getting more story! I got more page time too, so I can’t complain. One of those scenes will have you chuckling.

No Cliffhangers?

I said earlier that My scribe loves epilogues and having many endings like JRR Tolkien did in his Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The final book, Return of the King, ends multiple times and every character gets an ending.

Melinda loved that when she read it in 2001 after seeing the film adaption for Fellowship of the Ring. Yes, she saw the movie before reading the trilogy, and if you’ve read some of her books, you’ll find many of her books end multiple times because she tries really hard to wrap up every single thing.

Curse Breaker Jousts (which is coming soon!!!) isn’t the only example. Curse Breaker Enchanted has multiple endings too, so does Curse Breaker Hidden (Curse Breaker #6), Storm the Gates (Rogue Gods #3), and many others.

But sometimes we slip in something unexpected at the end (looking at you, Void Spells.) If you read that book, then you know what I mean. Melinda wasn’t happy that slid in there at the end. But she couldn’t fight it either. So sometimes we win and there are set-ups for stuff we want to do next and they unfortunately end on small cliffs because that is the best way to get more books out of our scribe!

So that’s the current battle. Melinda is trying to wrap everything in a bow because doing that makes her happy. Will the characters in Chaos in Chains slip something in at the end to set up a future adventure?

I don’t know yet since those chapters haven’t been written yet, but they want to. They set up a tertiary storyline that I think was for that reason. Melinda is trying to wrap that up right now. We’ll see who wins.

Camoes (and mild spoilers) Ahead!

Fun fact! Some characters from the Rogue Gods Trilogy teamed up to help my aunt Sovvan in Chaos in Chains.

So if you wanted to catch up with Guerren (the ex-god of war), Thaniel (a warrior angel and friend of Misriah, my dad’s guardian angel), and Argeaneal (an angel mage/librarian who misses his library), then you’ll enjoy Chaos in Chains because they get heavily involved in one storyline.

Fay and her family own the other storyline because no one says no to the ex-goddess of fate. I don’t think anyone ever says no to her daughter, Faylon, who transforms into a dragon, either. So they show up a lot too.

So that’s where we are now. Next week, I hope I can tell you that the final chapters were written because that means Melinda will switch to writing the sequel to Curse Breaker Jousts!

It has such a fun twist at the end and I can’t wait to find out where we’ll go with it in the sequel. Yes, the twist was incentive to get my scribe to write it ASAP. You’ll find out soon what it was!

Don’t worry. The twist at the end comes after we resolve the story problem. So it’s not a cliffhanger, just a fun situation to think about. But you won’t have to wait long to find out where we go with it since the plan is to have the sequel out in the spring of 2027 as soon as it’s ready.
