Hi Readers,
My son and brother chase a purple star around our cave. (You can read why here.) Miren’s smiling and my son’s little face is scrunched up with determination. His hands grasp after the dancing spark. Maybe he’ll catch it.
I sit here unable to join in their game. I can’t stop thinking about what happened. All I wanted was to get to work on time, do the busywork assignment of the night and go home to the boy leaping over fallen books. But what I got instead was a mystery I could neither forget nor let go.
It led me to question everything I ever believed in. Too late I figured it all out, but just in time to save the boy rushing towards me. Clutched in his tiny hand is a purple glow. It pulsates drawing my gaze from my son’s smiling face to the light exploding out of his fist. The cave spins dropping me through a shimmering tunnel.
I fall through time and memory to where everything began, a crowded tunnel and a commute to the most harrowing experience of my young life. I am Sarn, and this is how my story began.
Dodging people, statuary, and some grasping foliage, Sarn hurtled through the crowded tunnel. He picked up the pace and threaded through a knot of laughing boys. He had to cross half the mountain to reach tonight’s meet point before those bells tolled. But the populace of the mountain fortress clogged the tunnels, and they lollygagged. No bell rang, but soon they’d toll the twentieth hour, and each peal would count out his doom–read the rest in Curse Breaker: Enchanted.
Curse Breaker: Enchanted chronicles my journey to unravel a deadly chain of events. It’s all there, the missteps, the mistakes, the Enchanted Forest and of course, magic. Too much magic in my opinion, but I’m the one losing my mind to it, so I’m biased.
There’s also moments like this one. I look into my son’s eyes as I fold his tiny fingers around the brilliant treasure he’s come to show me. His smile banishes the recriminations, the guilt. I embrace him and hold hope safe in my arms.
I am Sarn, the hero of Curse Breaker: Enchanted. Only one character will be chosen for an interview. Don’t choose me. I’m spying on the men who discovered my son’s existence in Curse Breaker: Enchanted. I’ve got to expose them before they expose my son. You can read all about it in the forthcoming Curse Breaker: Faceted. Wish me luck.
