When Vampires + Dark Gods Rise–Who’re You going to call?

Hi Readers!

Thank you for attending the Readers’ Extravaganza Event hosted by Prisca Martin and 25 other authors including our scribe. We’re so sorry if we messed up the times or confused anyone. The event was held in a time zone we’ve never heard of and we may have made some conversion errors in our zeal to publicize our 30 minutes of Facebook fame.

Please forgive us?

We’re only fictional characters after all and technology is not our friend! (We can show you video proof of this–actually, we can’t because it only recorded the River Nirthal and our voices! But you can see our attempt at ‘going live’ here: https://youtu.be/OrjLocadOgw )

Why did we take over the event?

Because our fearless host, Prisca Martin, was rushed to the hospital.

Prisca is a mother, author and the sweetest person we know. She writes romance and is now in a battle for her life against brain cancer. The cast of the Curse Breaker Series is praying for her. If you can spare a moment, please send her some positive vibes.

If you or anyone you know likes romance books, please recommend Prisca’s books to them. Every little bit helps!

We had hoped to continue our search live right where we left off at the event, but that wasn’t possible. Herding authors is like herding dragons. We don’t recommend it unless you like barbecued characters. o_0

So we’ve come to apologize and to thank everyone for your patience and participation. We really, really appreciate you showing up. We’ve never done anything like this before. Just knowing you were there was a huge comfort for us. So thank you!

Now that we’ve got that out of the way. Let’s get back to where you last saw us–outside that castle.

Onward!

I (Ran) push to my feet and run toward the castle. I know my book’s in there. My scribe’s a canny woman and that castle looks a lot like the one under Mount Eredren–especially the third tower. Did its builders take a page from the Litherians and add a secret door in there?

Head down, I charge toward it until a hand grips my collar. Papa pulls me down into the brush beside him. His arm clamps me to his side keeping me still.

“What is it?” I whisper in his good ear.

Papa just shakes his head. Behind us, I hear grumbling. Uncle Miren is scratching something in the dirt. He catches my eye and smiles, never a good sign.

PARADISI ESCAPE,” Uncle Miren mutters. “Come to the SPECULATIVE FEAST at the #SPACE SUMMIT where CLEAN FANTASY READS ENLIGHTEN YOUR HORIZONS.” Uncle Miren stabs the dirt with his finger. “That’s where we need to go.” Smugness radiates off him in inky waves. I scowl at him.

“We’ll figure that out later. Look.” Papa points to a figure on the north tower. The wind billows his black robes as it carries his laughter to us. I push to my feet as the hooded man disappears and this time Papa is beside me. We dash through the half-raised portcullis into a courtyard and there’s the book statue mentioned in our missing scribe’s last note.

Excitement thrums through my veins. I know our book is here. I can feel its nearness. But there are four towers and who knows how many sublevels. Where do we begin? I look to Papa for the answer, but he’s striding toward the north tower and I’m running to catch up.

A rough-hewn door bars my path until a large hand grasps the ring in its center high over my head. Papa swings the door inward revealing a narrow, twisting stairway.

Not again. I groan, kick the first step and give Papa a pleading look. He smiles and scoops me up.

“Still not a fan of stairs, huh?”

I shake my head. “Nope. Onward!” I point to the spiral and Papa chuckles.

His green eyes dance with merriment intensifying their glow. Even his magic is amused. I smile but before Papa can take the first step, a paper slides around the bend.

“What’s it say?”

Is it another note from our scribe? From her captors?

Papa frowns at the block lettering. “I don’t know. Where’s Miren?”

Papa turns but Uncle Miren isn’t there. The courtyard is empty and Papa’s holding a note we can’t read.

Please help us decipher it–
