Curse Breaker | Pursued
Vaulting from boulder to boulder, he crossed the white-capped river mere feet from the falls themselves. On the far shore, he broke into a run and hit the maze the rich had dubbedย the Lower Quarters. Though squalor, even one with such a genteel moniker, was still rankest poverty.
Reeking of urine, rotting food, and unwashed bodies, the stink grew stronger as Sarn fled the river and headed towards the galleries where the indentured dwelt. His footfalls echoed despite his attempts to run silently down twisting tunnels. He hurried, breaking off just before he reached one of the less populated caverns.
Let his brother and son be ok. That thought drummed in his head, growing louder every time he caught sight of the ghost of the dead boy dogging his heels.

Ii love it ,thx
Thank you ๐
So, the stars are the souls of his son and brother? How interesting that they leaped out into the room. We are light, aren’t we!
You know that’s a great explanation. I’ve been waiting for Sarn to come up with some logic behind what he see when the magic’s on him. I know he sees his loved ones as stars on his mental map but that’s as far as I have gotten. The soul theory works well with what pops up later in the story. Thank you!
You’re welcome. The ancestors keep us going!
yes they do ๐ And Sarn’s Ancestors keep their on him but that doesn’t come up until later.
Cool!
Yes but it’s way down road when they step in and offer him some much needed tutelage.
In my experience, they do hold back for us to learn and grow.
yes I can’t wait for that book to be out there. It’s wonderful but I first I need to publish/write the books that proceed it.
That was quite an easy entry, if they leave their doors unlocked for any one to walk in. Will he stay or now he feels that he has outgrown them, he will wander off…
The Foundlings? Sarn took his brother and son and left them after his son’s mother disappeared. He still provides food for them but he won’t live with them anymore. Though he only lives a hundred paces away…so he hasn’t gone far. Thank you for reading and commenting. It means so much to me.
My pleasure Melinda. I just wondered why he thought that way.
I’m glad you’re wondering ๐ I decided to spare the reader the Foundlings’ drama in this book since most of the book takes place away from where they live and Sarn avoids them when he is home. They remind him of what he’s lost and they want things from that he can’t give. They’re a serious thorn in his side in the next book and one after that. Even in this boom he can’t completely escape their long shadow. However, maybe I should let you meet them.
It might add some more background.
Ohhhh. He came home. And his home, as what I understood is a bit wrecked? Did I get that right? I hope I did. ๐
Hasn’t gone inside yet. He just looked at the rough door he made out of bits of things when they moved into that cave. ๐ We’ll see what he finds next week ๐
Ooohhh. Exciting! ๐ ๐ ๐
