Hi readers,
Last week, we unveiled some cool artwork featuring us. We were hoping to unveil the Newsletter-Dragon card, but when we tried to render her, she lobbed a fireball at the program, and it had a bit of a meltdown. She’s still mad at us for imprisoning her in a giant book, but we had to do it. You saw the mayhem she was causing.
And now, ladies and gents, we can finally talk about that secret project we mentioned in January. Drumroll, please …
When only silence met his request, Ran spun the computer chair around to face the twentyish hooded man hunched over a small boxy thing. Light from the portal floating just behind his right shoulder dyed his green cloak and Rangers’ uniform a vibrant purple that complimented his green-glowing eyes.
“Papa? Are you listening to me?”
“Always, son.”
“Then how about that drumroll? Can you give one so I can announce that secret project we’re part of?”
“Sure,” Papa said absently as he frowned at the device in his hand.
He sat on the chaise launch by the open sliding glass doors that led to the sad cement square that was supposed to be a patio. Our scribe was out there, running after the gardening implements the wind was tossing around. She’s trying to avoid incurring any more fees for property damage after the boiler room incident.
“I think this thing is broken.” Papa shook the cell phone. It looked small in his big hands.
“It’s not broken. It just doesn’t like magic, and you’re very magical. So about that drumroll?”
“What?”
“Never mind.”
Ran spun the chair around to face the computer again and resumed typing.
Sorry about that delay. Papa is trying to spread the word about our project, but he’s a mage, and technology and magic don’t mix all that well. But magic mixes very well in our upcoming books:

So where do we fit in with those tales of daring-do?
Well, we’re not sexy shifters or witty witches, but we are magical and often involved in mayhem. 😉 This is our book in Rogue Skies:
What’s Hunter’s Night about?
The skies have gone rogue, and so has the land. None of that matters when the Wild Hunt kidnaps her baby. But Robin’s not the only distraught parent who weaponed up for the search. She’s joined by a mage who’s desperate to get his secret son back and his mysterious friend who might be more dangerous than the creatures who took their children.
Pre-order Rogue Skies today.
Bonus!!! If you pre-order Rogue Skies today on Kobo, Nook or iBooks, you’ll get a free gift.
We weren’t able to make it into the bonus gift, but we are in Rogue Skies.
I (Ran) am a just baby in it, and I’m in desperate need of a rescue. So Papa is joined by the tough daughter of a Ranger (Robin) who’s trying to get her daughter back. Robin is a strong lady who’s well-versed in forestry and archery, and she’s not afraid to tangle with the Wild Hunt.
If this sounds at all familiar, that’s because it is. The beginning of this story ran in our newsletter last year. It was part of a frame story, which at the time, was called Shards of His Present. It starred me as a teenager looking back through a magical Christmas ornament at my first Christmas and my kidnapping at the hands of the Wild Hunt.
But the story of my first Christmas and Papa’s adventure to save me brought in several new characters, and they were so interesting, they deserved more page time. One of them, Robin, quickly took over the narrative, turning what was supposed to be a series of short flashbacks tucked into my story into a 50/50 split between her and Papa that quickly took over my story.
Wisely, Our scribe, Melinda, started calling that story Hunter’s Night and divorced it from the book that gave it life: Shards for His Present.
So the forthcoming Shards for His Present is still all about teenage me, and I’m still looking back at a kidnapping I don’t remember. But I’m now free to do more cool stuff and spend less time looking at the past because there’s a book that handles that past event in full detail. This pleases me. I’m an active character at heart.
Don’t worry if you don’t remember Shards for His Present. The scenes previously published in our newsletter have been greatly expanded, and new scenes were inserted in between them. Same with the flashback scenes that became Hunter’s Night.
And that’s all the space we have for this week’s issue. We’d hoped to return to the boiler room this week to resolve our Dragonish Problem, but we were contractually obligated to talk about Rogues Skies as soon as was available on pre-order, and we were super excited to do so!
This set is a big deal for us. There are several USA Today best-selling authors in the set. So this is our chance to rub literary elbows with them, and hopefully meet new readers.
Help us spread the word!
