Hi Readers,
Today, I need to pull back the curtain and give you a glimpse behind the scenes. So come with me!
(This is Ran, Sarn’s very happy son from the Curse Breaker series. I’ll tell you why I’m so happy in a bit, but if you’ve been with us a while, you might already know, but I’m digressing as I do at least once per newsletter.)
So what’s going on?
We’re moving from our newsletter host to Substack, and the move will save us $240 a year in fees. Yes, we pay a monthly fee to appear in your newsletter, but we just found out that we don’t have to do that anymore. Substack will let us email you for free, so we can use that $240 for a pretty cover (we need 2 covers right now) or editing.
What does that mean for you?
Next Monday, our newsletter might arrive from a different email address than usual or it might come from the same one we’ve used for years. We’re a little confused about that, and we won’t know for sure until the transition finishes. It’s in limbo over the weekend as you’d expect.
So just be on the lookout for next week’s email, so you don’t miss my continuing adventure! Because that would make me sad, and you don’t want to do that.
This newsletter will remain free, so don’t worry about that. I know Substack has paid options, but this newsletter and all my shenanigans outside of our books will stay as they have always been, but now they will be free for us to send to you.
I wanted to let you know in case Substack sends you a welcome email. We can’t tell if that’s part of the process, and that’s frustrating. But we’ve heard their email service is comparable to the hose we’re leaving just without the high monthly cost, so we have high hopes that this works for you and us.
If it doesn’t, we have another option we’re looking into. We’ll see how things go.
Usually, we don’t talk about behind the scenes stuff in here, but we promised in our privacy statement to let you know when your data (just your name and your email address) moves to another data processor, and we’re keeping that promise.
We take the permission you gave us to email you very seriously. Thank you for letting us visit with you today! And we hope you’ll stick around to see what we do next.
Okay, now I can tell you why I am so happy. Melinda wrote 9 chapters for me for Shards For His Gift! Three of them are really rough and more like an outline with some dialogue than a readable chapter, but that’s more than I’ve gotten since Curse Breaker Revealed ended. So it’s a win in my book!
How’s Robin?
Well, she’s not happy because Melinda only wrote one messy chapter for her. Also, our Scribe heard back from that trusted friend about Rogue Ranger.
But I’ll wait until next week to tell you about that, so you have incentive to find our newsletter in your inbox in case my cozy story isn’t enough. And now back to:
Shards For His Gift
A Curse Breaker Story
by Melinda Kucsera
Shards For His Gift is a cozy fantasy story of magic and one family’s struggle to stay together. In a world that hates and fears magic, how can one mage win custody of his son and survive?
***
Sarn is referring to events in Curse Breaker Fallout, Curse Breaker Trapped, & Curse Breaker Revealed that changed his relationship with his earth magic and evolved that magic, making it more sentient. Give those a read to see the progression. (You can get them all in one omnibus for around $3 a book.)
That’s it for this week. We’ll be back next week, hopefully from Substack, and hopefully, this new arrangement will benefit us both. Cross your fingers!
