Souls Praying: Stomp Prompt Sonnet #7

Souls Praying “He who began the song with that one chord, didn’t sit enthroned. Raising Choruses of peace, so all could be of one accord, he sang, delivering new summonses, Weaving a song of forgiveness: atone now, he spoke to her, the woman who walked in slow time savoring the show. Her bones rest in the graveyard, where the music waked her soul and painted it with images sung by that musician. She kissed his cheek with grave cold lips. ‘Tween her stands no cages to keep her from the salvation she seeks. To Him she goes, to join his … Continue reading Souls Praying: Stomp Prompt Sonnet #7

A Dream Out of Reach – A Daily Post Sonnet #2

A Dream Out of Reach On the field of glory, his armor bright, the knight sat his white steed ready to ride. He extended his hand, asked if Sarn might: “Ride for truth. Ride for one and for all. Ride for justice and peace. Ride out now with me.” The sun gilded the knight, made him too bright. He shined with all Sarn had wanted to be. Take that hand and his life would be so right… A tug on his pant leg, a whispered word, “Papa,” interrupted the dream, breaking the dream on his son‘s face, that had captured … Continue reading A Dream Out of Reach – A Daily Post Sonnet #2

Rumble in the Enchanted Forest – A Photo-Fiction Prompt Sonnet

Rumble in the Enchanted Forest Changing skin, trading fur for red jacket slim, hands in pockets cold, the enchanted forest’s always watching, got no hatchet wouldn’t hack it even those slanted magicked weeds wouldn’t know. Wolves confront me, glare at my red jacket wanting action. Dropping my jacket, I attack with glee. My claws tear them into bloody fractions. Fight’s done, I grab my jacket put it back on as the trees shiver, shaking loose bark projectiles, silent splinters shot that dive bomb, aimed to kill; I zigzag through the dark ’round giant trees spewing darts, must survive… Ahead I hear shouts, Rangers … Continue reading Rumble in the Enchanted Forest – A Photo-Fiction Prompt Sonnet

Out of Reach – A Daily Prompt Sonnet

Out of Reach ‘Twas no toy upon  high shelf that caught his eye, no bright ball rolling down a hole either, not some child’s toy that could be bought, nothing so droll as that for this boy’s goal. His little fingers strained to touch the magic rising around him in concentric spheres. Shimmering green, translucent–a magic bubble cast by his father sleeping near. Light created it, light dribbling out his father’s closed eyes, made by fear of loss for his precious son, a child who without that shield would be visible to the boss. The bad man walking by scanning the dark for … Continue reading Out of Reach – A Daily Prompt Sonnet

To Live and Die in Starlight

To Live and Die in Starlight To live and die in starlight—my dark tomb I await as my last breath space swallows. Static–no rescue from this chill’d, stark womb. No shining rebirth as stars do follows this silent end of asphyxiation. No state funeral, no six gun salute– No alien felled me for my nation. No blanket of flags to warm my spacesuit. My ship, my headstone, one more asteroid, ablaze amid earth’s atmosphere, streaming ash from astronaut Lloyd, dead in the void. He lived and died in starlight bleak and cold, No warmth of flesh, no smile to behold. … Continue reading To Live and Die in Starlight

Souls Arriving: Stomp Prompt Sonnet #6

Souls Arriving “On the far shore, where old lives abated. The square-rigged, ship drawn by dragon power, pulled up to the shallows. She departed with the souls who’d flown from grave to towers shining in the sun. Angels gathered there to welcome all to the Lands of Ever where no mortal had e’er trod. Whatever expectations she’d had fled, for never had she dreamed of a city of angels. They lined the streets in gleaming robes, waving, singing, a song that had no ending. Bells chimed in sweet accompaniment, leading her deeper into the city, towards He who began the song … Continue reading Souls Arriving: Stomp Prompt Sonnet #6

Hands of Flame – Photo-Fiction Challenge #9

Hands of Flame: Gevret* Fire burned cold in his eyes, a corona of red that coated the world, blotting out other colors, showing no nirvana just a holocaust snap shot to call out the future and leave him holding firelight. Flames that crack and curl everything except him because he’s got that firelight under his skin. It’s his kin, and throwing it takes no skill, just a snap of the wrist and flames shoot to kill the man menacing his adopted brother. The boy’s head kissed; He’s unharmed; his relieved smile disarms, quenches fire with a hug, such is his charm. – – – … Continue reading Hands of Flame – Photo-Fiction Challenge #9

Two Skeletons Embracing, Side by Side – Thursday Picture Prompt #34

Two Skeletons Embracing, Side by Side. Two skeletons embracing, side by side. Life’s not ending as it should, if those bones aren’t embracing in the earth. Side by side they rattle folks, remind us bags of bones, that death is stalking us with every breath. Two skeletons embracing on a bench, a photographer’s trick on cheating death? Perhaps a macabre scene meant to quench, our natural fear of what comes next, after death’s scythe falls and separates us from life. All Hallows Eve we play at ghosts, never thinking about our life ending, too rife with possibility, each day pushes death away, ’til one day back it rushes. … Continue reading Two Skeletons Embracing, Side by Side – Thursday Picture Prompt #34

Seven Words – A Sonnet for the Daily Post

Seven Words Seven Wonders described with seven words. Seven words separate understanding from confusion. Do less words go unheard when all the work, seven words are doing? Khalil Gibran once said, “that people will never understand one another [‘less] language is reduced to seven words.” Still, to discuss science we need more not less. To define reality, we need more than seven words but there is One who needs even less, one who began with no more than one word, making all life when decreed. Seven words are all I need to express how much you mean to me, but I digress. – – – … Continue reading Seven Words – A Sonnet for the Daily Post

Souls Sailing: Stomp Prompt Sonnet #5

Souls Sailing “All aboard,” the angel mariner says. He’s plied this route for centuries. On one shore stands the Mortal Veil, and ways back to flesh, blood and woe. “Turn from it please, that sparkling curtain, lest it tempt you to step through and become a lost soul again. No life is found that way. If life’s what you want, sail with me to Eversong. You’ll gain new life when you’ve atoned.” She looked instead at the other shimmering veils, the black angel, Shonofar, singing as she lead arriving souls to the ship, not one looked back at where they’d been. … Continue reading Souls Sailing: Stomp Prompt Sonnet #5

Your Design – (Extra)ordinary

Your Design ‘Tween two ice sheets on a road, there bubbles gold as pavement heats and ice melts away. Caught in that swift rushing current, unable to flee, a piece of winter castaway and shoved towards the grate to flow river-wards. In the bubbles’ shine I see your paintbrush, evidence of your attention, my Lord. I study your work while everyone rushes past ignoring the clues you left hidden in ordinary things, small spectacles, for those who search the small details, even ice melting on a road, for particles of the divine, or lacking that, a sign that you stood here and crafted this design. – … Continue reading Your Design – (Extra)ordinary

The Pearl and the Fool: a Wordle Me a Reverie Prompt

The Pearl and the Fool I rolled the pearl round my palm, through layers of nacre, I saw the shade’s enchantment. No grace needed to break the cursed layers.  Though drowning in magic, its argument, malformed, made the spell’s body easily broken–any street mage could have done it. In the end, the fool had chosen poorly. No doubt he tilted at Windmills, that fit the desperate mindset of the patron who’d bought the pearl to give to a child born today, to adorn heels for its matron. Fool lived on a precipice that grew corn. His stupidity was immortalized when in trade, he offered corn, caramelized. For this week’s Wordle Me a Reverie prompt, the bolded words … Continue reading The Pearl and the Fool: a Wordle Me a Reverie Prompt

A Sonnet by the Dots – The Daily Post

By the Dots I play by the dots, connect them, throw them at the walls to see what sticks. Drop them out the window to see if they bounce, cut them, twist ’em round, stretch ’till they break, wring them out, shoot out their holes, fling them into outer space to see if they’ll orbit or break out– but they fall meteorite bright booster rocket broken to land smack dab center of my prose and punctuate my rambling woes–how dare you add exclamation points, periods, commas, colons– you bumbling dots quit fumbling my meaning, appoint another task for that damn question … Continue reading A Sonnet by the Dots – The Daily Post

Souls Playing: Stomp Prompt Sonnet #4

Souls Playing Note by note, word by word, ’till all was right, he stood swaying on the deck. Plucking strings, to hear them ring, he played a song of night. Along the shore, they came all night, both kings, and serfs alike. Death accepts all titles, severs all allegiances ‘cept to Him, who fashioned all, to Him who’s entitled all praise and thanksgiving. Eversong’s hymns rise o’er that sparkling metropolis. Amethyst spires pierce the sky and dragons circle, their jeweled wings flashing as they kiss the clouds. Souls gape and stare, none are draggin’ their feet. He smiles, lowers the … Continue reading Souls Playing: Stomp Prompt Sonnet #4
